The TireRack.com ChampCar Endurance Series opens its 12th year with a full twenty-seven event season. Helping to build on that long-term success is the Mazda Motorsports Contingency Program.
Over the past 3 seasons, over 400 Mazda vehicles have participated in ChampCar endurance events with many finishing on the podium.
Unlike most of the cars on the racing surface during a TireRack.com ChampCar Endurance Series weekend, Mazda endurance racing teams have the support of the manufacturer.
Joe White from Basil Weenie Racing, race car pictured above, says, “The support that Mazda Motorsport’s offers for specialized race and stock parts for a reasonable cost is second to none.”
Joe and his team have been long time racers with the TireRack.com ChampCar Endurance Series. “Miata has long been proven as a competitive, low-cost platform for track usage. So that is why I started with a Miata as a my very first race car,” added Joe.
2021 also sees ChampCar under new leadership as longtime events director Dana Morrison takes over as CEO. Dana was asked how important Mazda was to the ChampCar Endurance Series, “Extremely important. It is a well-worn phrase, but it is true that on any given weekend more Mazda’s are raced than any other car. ChampCar is fortunate to have a large number of them at our events.” He adds, “ChampCar was built on the foundation of giving racers as much track time as possible while keeping the cost of racing down. Mazda’s support of ChampCar teams allows them access to quality factory parts at reasonable prices.”
The new ChampCar Chief Executive Officer is a Mazda Miata racer in ChampCar as well. Dana says that the best part of racing a Miata is “Reliability and the low cost of racing. The pathway to building a Mazda based race car is well established. The car’s light weight means consumables like brakes and tires last an entire weekend, the cars are easy to maintain, and they sip fuel which means you can stay on track longer.”
