Formula Car Challenge Schedule

The Formula Car Challenge, which features three classes of Mazda-powered formula car racing in several regional series across the country, announced the schedule for its premier West Coast series and National Championship event at Sonoma Raceway.

The series will race at Portland International Raceway, Thunderhill Raceway Park, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and a variety of configurations at Sonoma Raceway. “As has been the model since the series inception, a majority of our events feature exclusive track time for our drivers,” says FCC series official Jeff Loge.

There are two special events on the West Coast 2014 calendar. The first is a race on an SCCA Majors weekend on July 4-5 at Portland International Raceway. “This event is considered the region’s premier event,” adds Loge. “Our series has two exclusive races, but drivers can also opt to participate in the SCCA sessions making the event a quadruple header.”

In September the Formula Car Challenge presented by Goodyear is a featured series during the FIA World Touring Car Championship event at Sonoma. The FCC presented by Goodyear will be hosting their national championship during this action-packed race weekend. 2014 marks the FIA WTCC’s third annual visit to the States, and race fans have been delighted by the high-intensity, full-throttle racing of this international series.

“We expect that drivers will come out from all of our regions for this event,” notes Loge. “Two of our 2013 National Champions went on to be chosen to participate in Mazda’s Club Racer Shootout, and this is due to the level of competition we have in the series, especially at the National Championships.”

“These two weekends are what we refer to as our ‘diamond’ events,” explains World Speed Communications Director Mark Milazzo. “This doesn’t mean that the other events we have are not exciting. Every event NASA sanctions features all kinds of great racing action. Over the course of the season we will be scheduled alongside the US Touring Car Championship, Pirelli Driver’s Cup, Global Time Attack, Porsche Racing Club, American Iron Series, The Spec Miata Challenge, and a host of other interesting racing series.”

Racers have already started testing for the 2014 FCC season and the 2014 Winter Series Championships are scheduled for Jan. 17-19 at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif.
