Top Spec Miata team expands to Spec MX-5

Mendon, Mass.-based Flatout Motorsports was founded by Nick Leverone, Andy Bettencourt and Steve Ufelder in 1993 to be a service provider for autocrossers, but a decade later retooled itself as a Spec Miata rental company and now adds Spec MX-5 to its fleet.

Whether the racers want to rent a Flatout rental car or have Flatout build and support them, they’re in good hands. More than just building and maintaining top Spec Miata’s, and now Spec MX-5 race cars, Flatout’s leader – Nick Leverone – is an accomplished pro and club racer who also coaches his drivers.

According to Leverone, “We work hard to provide a fun and safe weekend with the opportunity for our racers to further develop their craft. We do this 30-35 times per year all the way up and down the East Coast, as well as into the Midwest. Our racers show up; bond; learn; compete; then fly home.”

“Nick and his team at Flatout have been a staple in the racing community for years, developing all their drivers – young and older,” commented Mazda Motorsports’ business development manager and lead for Mazda’s grassroots racing program. “We’ve been fortunate for years to work with the team and are thrilled for its entry into the Spec MX-5 Challenge Series, which is quickly becoming known as THE driver development series. This really is a perfect fit, whether you’re interested in Spec Miata (1990-2005 Miatas) or Spec MX-5 (2006-2015 Miatas).
