SCCA Virtual Racing from Watkins Glen this Saturday

DJ Allessandrini Wins Three in a Row as Mazda MX-5 Cup competition highlights SCCA’s eSports racing.

Sports Car Club of America launched the Hoosier eSports Super Tour, a virtual representation of the analog, real world Hoosier Super Tour that runs at bucket list tracks across the country. The series features five race groups each weekend on the iRacing platform with the Mazda MX-5 Cup as the main event that concludes action each Saturday.

Seasoned Runoffs announcers Gregg Ginsberg and Larry MacLeod provide color commentary of the live streamed races, and all you have to do to enjoy the video broadcast is tune in to the Official SCCA Facebook Page or SCCA’s YouTube Channel. You can also catch a replay at any time through either of those online portals. The approximate broadcast schedule each Saturday has been as follows (all times Eastern), though this week could change due to the introduction of Team Valvoline ProAm:

– 5:00 p.m.: Spec Racer Ford

– 5:55 p.m.: Touring (Porsche Cayman GT4 and Mustang FR500s)

– 6:40 p.m.: Skip Barber Formula 2000

– 7:25 p.m.: Big Bore (Cadillac CTS-V, Porsche 911 Cup and Audi TCRs)

– 8:10 p.m.: Mazda MX-5 Cup

If you haven’t previously watched the broadcast of a virtual race, give it a shot. While the cars are not real, the competition and race strategy surely is, and things can get pretty tense and exciting. You might even recognize the names of a couple competitors. The calendar for upcoming Hoosier eSports Super Tour events is as follows:

– April 25: Watkins Glen International

– May 2: Road America

– May 9: Circuit of the Americas

– May 16: Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course

DJ Alessandrini, a top Mazda autocrosser, continues to prove he is a top-tier road racer, as well, as he has been called the MVP of the Hoosier eSports Super Tour by the SCCA. He has won each of the first three events (Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, Sebring International Raceway, and VIRginia International Raceway). At VIR, he ran off to a 1.245-second win after an early battle with Selin Rollan, who is a Mazda Road to 24 Scholarship recipient and a Battery Tender® Mazda MX-5 Cup winner.

If you would like to challenge Alessandrini and many other club and pro drivers, you can get behind the wheel of a virtual Mazda MX-5 Cup car thanks to iRacing. Hoosier eSports Super Tour competition is open to any current SCCA member. To be allowed to join, register for the SCCA eSports league here.
