The specifications of the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Cup car are released.
After months of thorough testing and ensuing discussions, the specs for the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Cup car have come together. That car will form the basis for not only the Idemitsu Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by BFGoodrich® Tires in North America, but for the global competitions modeled after it.
The sealed SKYACTIV-G 2.0-liter engine will get a sealed ECU from the UK’s General Engine Management Systems (GEMS), a stainless steel header and exhaust system, Setrab oil cooler and a heavy duty C&R radiator. Other parts of the drivetrain will benefit from Setrab coolers as well.
The brakes get stainless braided brake lines and Long Road Racing-developed cooling brake ducts, along with Pagid brake pads. The suspension will feature race springs and adjustable dampers.
As previously discussed, the cockpit has an FIA-, SCCA-, IMSA- and NASA-approved cage that will accommodate a 6’4″ driver and features NASCAR-style door bars. It has a switch panel, AiM data system, FIA harness, window nets, Lifeline Electronic FIA-approved fire system and a rear bulkhead enclosure.
Additional features include the Idemitsu Lithium Ion battery mounted in the trunk. Colors – all cars will be shipped with Arctic White paint – and seats will be up to the purchasers.
