In racing, lighter is almost always better. That is especially true of moving parts, including those inside the engine. So Mazda Motorsports is offering a Pauter Connecting Rod Set that can help reduce the weight of your Miata 1.6 or 1.8 engine internals.
“Mazda was able to have Pauter make us a custom connecting rod, a chromoly connecting rod, that is lighter than most, and they were able to put in the heavier-duty rod bolt that we wanted,” says Jesse Prather, who is putting them into the engines he builds for customers. “You’re getting a lighter rod for less money than most connecting rods. And Pauter is an extremely high quality connecting rod.”
The Pauter connecting rods weigh 455 grams each (with a variable of up to 10 grams per rod), compared to a stock rod at 534 grams. They also use the preferred 3/8-inch rod bolts, where many use 5/16-inch bolts. It’s a small measurement, but one that can make a big difference.
