Six Mazda Champs After Two Days of Solo Nationals

First half of the 43rd Tire Rack SCCA Solo Nationals is completed with six Mazda drivers coming out on top of their classes.

The first two days of competition have wrapped up at the 43rd Tire Rack SCCA Solo Nationals presented by Garmin Virb. Divided into two halves, the event crowns National Champions after Wednesday’s runs. Among them were six Mazda drivers, in Open and Ladies classes of B Street Prepared, C Street Prepared and Super Street Modified.

Super Street Modified was a great example of the depth of talent in any given class. Jake Namer came from behind to win the title by a mere 0.069-second over Tuesday leader Matthew Glagola. After the razor-close finish Namer could not put into words the emotional rollercoaster he had just endured to come out the other end as the victor. Ending Tuesday in fourth, Namer put down a screaming second run that cleared his closest competition by 0.7-second and was able to finish as the only driver in the class to break the 50-second barrier. Namer earned his first National Championship jacket, after finishing 2014 as the runner up.

Tamra Hunt conquered the Tire Rack National Championships in her first trip to the event in C Street Prepared Ladies. Hunt was the day-one leader and was able to keep the momentum rolling through Wednesday’s three runs, cruising to a 3.251-second win over the rest of the field.

The top four cars in B Street Prepared were MAZDASPEED Miatas, with California driver Steve O’Blenes coming out on top of Christopher Edens, Anthony Porta and Frank Likert.
