Mazda Motorsports Expands Relationship with Roush Performance

The Spec MX-5 program is getting an upgrade, benefiting from an expanded relationship between Mazda Motorsports and race engine powerhouse Roush Performance.  This new deal will see the Spec MX-5 2.0L crate engine package receive a dedicated Roush Performance team utilize an onsite engine assembly room, where the famed engine builder will perform dyno testing and leak assessment on each Spec MX-5 2.0L crate engine before being shipped to the racer.

After the announcement of Spec MX-5 becoming an SCCA National Championship-eligible road racing class in 2023, this new chapter for the Series underscores Mazda Motorsports’ commitment to investing in their unrivaled grassroots racing program.  This expanded partnership with Roush Performance has arrived just in time, as unexpected growth has seen SMX entries soar in 2024.

“The ongoing relationship between Roush Performance and Mazda Motorsports stems all the way back from IMSA ST days,” remarked Josh Smith, Business Development Manager for Mazda Motorsports.  “We are really excited to continue to add value to the Spec MX-5 program with this key partnership that has such a rich history within motorsports.”

With over four decades of experience, Roush Performance brings a wealth of expertise to the table. Each engine handcrafted by Roush embodies meticulous attention to detail, backed by industry-leading practices that have cemented their reputation in the racing world.

“We are very excited about the expanded partnership with Mazda Motorsports and their Spec MX-5 class,” declared Jack Roush Jr.  “We can’t wait to apply our racing engine know-how to support its competitors going forward.”

What sets this collaboration apart is the assurance of performance and reliability. Every engine undergoes rigorous dyno testing and leak assessment to ensure it meets the stringent performance benchmarks set by Mazda Motorsports. Utilizing state-of-the-art equipment such as the Super Flow engine dyno, Roush Performance verifies that each engine meets precise output specifications, ensuring optimal performance on the track.

Furthermore, these engines will be secured with 3 seals, streamlining technical procedures at club racing events. As long as the seals remain intact, this eliminates the need for certain checks except in cases of protest or participation in championship events. This not only simplifies the process for racers but also ensures parity throughout the Spec MX-5 field.

The first batch of these engines are being shipped to Mazda Motorsports now, and are available for immediate purchase via the parts store:  PT# 0000-01-5015-KT
