SVRA Miata Heritage Cup: Mid-O and VIR

The vintage series for first-generation Spec Miatas to complete season at Mid-Ohio and VIRginia International Raceway

Launched in 2017, the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA) Mazda Miata Heritage Cup has quickly differentiated itself as the place to take your first-generation Miata race car (1990-1997) for fun, clean, racing. Your next opportunities are at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on June 20-23 and VIRginia International Raceway on September 19-22.

“It has been our vision from the start that the first-generation Mazda Miatas would join our vintage organization and compete as well-prepared cars, without contact, and on the best race tracks in the U.S., providing a unique experience in motorsports,” says Tony Parella, SVRA President and CEO.

The focus for SVRA is all about experience for the collective. The racers are raving about being able to put their race cars back into the trailers at the end of the race weekend in the same condition they were in when they were unloaded at the start of the weekend. That’s why Parella stresses no contact, which includes no bump drafting. If you are at fault in an on-track incident, you’re done for the weekend. For those who desire this fun experience, you should know there is much more to Parella’s unique value proposition.

For a $350 entry fee, which is a reduced-price courtesy of the SVRA, drivers get to run in five, 30-minute sessions across the three-day weekend, not including the optional test day. That’s one practice session, two qualifiers, and two races. And all this in your own run group.

Mazda subsidizes the event by offering $100 to all race participants, regardless of finishing position. In addition, Mazda Miata Heritage Cup drivers who run on Penske Racing Shocks from Mazda Motorsports are also eligible to collect $125 (i.e. the Penske Racing Shocks bonus) through Mazda’s contingency program.

With abundant track time, a focus on close but clean competition, and a low weekend cost, the SVRA ties the weekend experience together by offering all Mazda Miata Heritage Cup racers two complimentary tickets to a dinner banquet at each event.

By placing the focus on the experience of collective group, SVRA focuses on the individual’s experience.
