SCCA’s First ProSolo Event is Here!

This weekend brings sunny 80 degree weather in Florida… along with the first SCCA ProSolo of the season! Over 140 racers will compete head-to-head in some of the most exciting Solo competition available.

Once again Mazdas dominate the field, making up nearly 1/3 of the entries. In C-Street, the ND (4th generation) Miata is fiercely competitive, with many top tier drivers behind the wheel. Will local Floridians Steve Sulatycki, Donald Wright, or Eduardo Tibau, or Darrin DiSimo have the advantage, or will Chris Harp who is driving all the way from TN come out on top?

NB Miatas are also one of the cars to have in the E-Street class, with the other being the MR2 Spyder. Steve Hughes, Mike Brau, Michael Griffith, and Sergio Ovalle will be fighting for the win against the MR2 Spyder drivers this weekend. We’ve heard the Ft Myers site tends to favor small, nimble cars, so we think a Miata may be the car to have for this event.

In STS, a class that allows suspension mods and wider wheels, we find the first generation NA (first generation) Miatas. We will be keeping a close eye on AJ Snyder in this class. However, we expect Ft Myers local Kyle Stulak to be in the hunt as well.

Street Touring Roadster brings back the ND Miatas as the top dogs. David Marcus had a lot of success with his painters tape blue Miata last season, but Jacob Ronald and Will Koscielny drove all the way down from the snowy Northeast to bring him competition this weekend. Competition in this class is expected to be fierce and is anyone’s game, but our money is on a Mazda coming out on top.

Moving on to the race tire classes, Street 2 is one of the largest classes of the event with 15 drivers. This will be an interesting one to watch as there’s a large mix of cars, from Mazdas to Lotuses.  Jake Namer, previous SSM National Champion, will be co-driving with Timothy Maxey in a 2004 Mazdaspeed Miata prepped for BSP. We expect these two to be near the top, but we will be watching James Flaumebaum carefully in his ND Miata.

Last but not least brings us to the Ladies classes. Gwen Habenicht and Becky Rash will be chasing down Jordan Towns in L2. In L3, we will be keeping an eye on Aimee Morfa, but Laura Campbell has a strong track record of wins in the ND Miata she is piloting.

Mazda will be cheering on all drivers in Florida this weekend, with contingency money going to many. In addition, as always, Mazda also supports their racers with parts discounts at MazdaMotorsports.com.
