Hoosier Super Tour Preview

First event of the 10-race series this weekend at Sebring features full support from Mazda Motorsports

The SCCA Hoosier Super Tour gets underway this weekend at Sebring International Raceway. The 10-race series that spans from Florida to California to Portland to Watkins Glen and points in between determines the SCCA nationwide points champions and also is a key component of the SCCA Super Sweep, which encompasses the points championship, a U.S. Majors Tour Conference title and a Runoffs win.

Venues for Super Tours are selected based on various attributes. Some have decades of history with a record book featuring the biggest names in all of motorsports. Other sites are top “pro” tracks offering the best quality racing surface and amenities. And certain tracks were selected because they are the best “club” courses in the country, where challenging layouts are matched with warm hospitality and a family feel to the paddock area.

Offering a heightened experience for both competitors and race fans, Hoosier Super Tour events include segmented timing and scoring, up to two static cameras broadcasting on-track action live at SCCA.com, a “Super Tour Radio presented by Hoosier Racing Tire” team of announcers providing consistent insight and entertainment heard at tracks or online at SCCA.com, and dedicated staffing with a series race director, administrator and technical inspector. Super Tour dates will also have enhanced weekend social activities.

For Hoosier Super Tour events, Mazda continues to offer one of the best contingency programs of any OEM, with up to $750 being paid for a win in select classes (up to $575 in SM, P1, P2, FA; $250 for FE and FE2), and competitors paid to fifth place. Majors Tour event winners earn up to $600 ($525 for SM, P1, P2 and FA), with winnings also being paid to fifth place at the Majors.

For Sebring and other Southeast Conference Majors events, Mazda will have a parts support trailer on hand, and new Mazda team member Josh Smith will be available for technical advice. Plus, Mazda Motorsports will host a barbecue for Mazda competitors.

After Sebring, the next stop will be at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, during the first weekend of February.
