Idemitsu MX-5 Cup: Nick Bruni

Nick Bruni joins professional sports car racing with MEATHEAD Racing.

Nick Bruni grew up as a “Navy Brat”—moving around every two years—until settling in Northern Virginia during high school.  In 2010, Bruni learned about the Sports Car Club of America’s (SCCA’s) Performance Driving Experience and immediately took his street car to VIRginia International Raceway for his first event.  Nick was hooked in no time and knew he had to go wheel-to-wheel racing.

Bruni discovered Spec Miata and, with the support of his parents, quickly purchased a donor car to build into a Spec Miata.  Like most people, Bruni realized he was a novice at building a race car; he then sought professional advice.  At this time, Bruni discovered MEATHEAD Racing, one of the largest Spec Miata race teams in the country.  Mike “MEATHEAD” Collins quickly realized that there was no way to get rid of this kid and offered him a job crewing for the team so he could learn about the car and sport.

And what a decision that was.

Five years later, Bruni is a regular contender in both Spec Miata and Showroom Spec Miata (SSM) in the SCCA Mid-Atlantic Road Racing Series. Nick has secured multiple race wins and podiums, finishing the 2015 season as runner-up in SSM. With the support of MEATHEAD Racing, Bruni is thrilled to make his pro racing debut in the 2016 Idemitsu Mazda MX-5 Cup.

Bruni will be teamed up with Mike Collins yet again – we expect – wreaking havoc on all others’ dreams and aspirations to dominate the series. Once again, MX-5 Cup gains top racing talent.

Rounds 1 & 2 of the 2016 Idemitsu MX-5 Cup kickoff April 29-May 1 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
