Several Mazda drivers claim victories and Conference titles at the final races at Colorado’s Pueblo Motorsports Park
The Mid-States Conference Majors Tour has come to a close at Pueblo Motorsports Park. Two days of racing on the 2.2-mile, 10-turn Colorado circuit would decide not only who took trophies from Pueblo, but who would claim the conference titles. At the end of the weekend, several Mazda drivers fell into both categories.
Bill Hingston put his No. 08 Little Bill Racing/Mazdaspeed Mazda Miata in front of the F Production field early, until giving way to Eric Prill’s No. 7 MaxtonsFight.org/Jesse Prather Motorsports/Hoosier Mazda Miata. Kevin Ruck missed the call to the grid and started at the back of the field. Ruck worked his way through traffic, eventually moving past Hingston and aiming for Prill. Prill had enough of a cushion to keep the lead and clinch the Conference Championship. Prill repeated his victory on Sunday.
Jonathan Goodale took his MX-5 to a pair of wins in GT-Lite at Pueblo. The Conifer, Colo., driver had the points lead heading in, so that should give him the Conference championship.
Other drivers who pulled off double victories include Larry Howard in Formula Mazda, Jay Messenger (Carbir CS-6/Mazda) in Prototype 2 and Sellin Rollan in Spec Miata. Cedric Donohoo won Touring 4 in an RX-8, and Guy Ruse also took a single victory in his E Production RX-7.
Several drivers who did not compete at Pueblo came into the weekend with sufficient cushion to claim the Conference title, including Alan Marshall in GT-3 (RX-7) and Matt Reynolds in both E Production (Miata) and Spec Miata.
