Miatas sweep F Production at joint SCCA Majors Tour race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio.

Like many racing events in the U.S. this weekend, the joint Northern and Northeast Conference SCCA Majors Tour events at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, experienced weather difficulties. Rain showers threatened throughout the day on Saturday, but only affected one of the 25-minute sprint races. The 19-lap feature races of the 15-turn, 2.4-mile circuit on Sunday, though, featured a wet circuit for the duration of the day.

On Saturday, the brief shower occurred during the middle laps of the Production and GT-Lite race. The rain fell for less than five minutes and was gone as quickly as it came. Sunshine followed and completely dried the course before the race was complete.
F Production winner Charlie Campbell, of Corry, Pa., was in the right place at the right time to take advantage of the short shower. In his No. 89 Campbell Brothers Racing/Jesse Prather Motorsports Mazda Miata, Campbell was able to pass a spinning Sam Henry in the Keyhole corner. He was then able to hold off Eric Prill in the closing laps of the race to secure the win. Prill took the FP win on Sunday.

Spec Miata produced a close finish with Justin Hille, of Canfield, Ohio, taking the provisional win in his No. 48 Hilltrux/Roush Mazda Miata. His win came as the result of a close, tight battle with Alex Bolanos and other front-runners that raged for 15 laps.

On Sunday, though, Bolanos, of Hialeah, Fla., was the winner, leading a field of 45 starters across the finish line. Bolanos guided his No.57 Autotechnik/Momo/Apex Alignment Mazda Miata to the finish in conditions that were less than ideal. As the track teetered between wet and beginning to dry, Bolanos finished 1.539 seconds ahead of Saturday race winner Hille.

The next race for the Northern Conference is the famous June Sprints at Road America on June 12-14. Watkins Glen will be the site of the next Northeast Conference race on July 3-5.
