Scholarship up for Grabs

Mazda Motorsports is once again supporting Project Yellow Light, a scholarship competition designed to encourage teens to embrace safe driving habits and bring awareness to the dangers of distracted driving.

College and high school students can produce videos designed to persuade their peers not to drive distracted. The videos can be 25 or 55 seconds long, and the top three winners from both college and high school entries will receive scholarships – $5,000, $2,000 and $1,000, respectively, for first through third. The top two winners will also earn the opportunity to attend a one-day survival skills class at the Skip Barber Racing School.

The winning video will be turned into an Ad Council PSA and distributed nationally. For more information, see www.projectyellowlight.com.

The 16-turn, 2.75-mile circuit was designed by Alan Wilson, who also laid out Barber Motorsports park near Birmingham, Ala. It’s the first stop at the track for the Majors races, which replaced National races as the top tier of SCCA Club Racing.

2013 Formula Mazda champion Darryl Wills will be racing at NOLA and adding another class to his résumé. About 20 Spec Miatas are expected, along with a large contingent of Mazda racers in the E and F Production categories. Palm Beach Majors Formula Atlantic winner Keith Grant is entered with his Mazda-powered Swift, hoping to add some more wins to his 2014 results.
