Autocross/SOLO Competition

Autocross, also known as SOLO, takes place on unused airport runways, parking lots or any area where an expanse of concrete or asphalt beckons. SOLO competition features relatively low-speed courses, marked by traffic cones, that change each event; these runs test your driving precision.

Anyone with a driver’s license, a safe car and a helmet can compete.

SOLO goes well beyond street cars and is fertile soil for performance innovation – one of a few areas of motorsports where the creative can really get to work. It’s also an ideal playground for Mazda vehicles, most notably the MX-5, Miata and RX-8, but extending to every model in Mazda’s past and present.

In addition to hundreds of Regional events held each year by the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA), for example, SOLO includes two touring competitions: The Championship Tour and the ProSolo National Series. The Championship Tour events are two-day affairs where competitors have to master two different courses to walk away with the best time. ProSolo features two-mirror image courses, where competitors line up side by side for a drag racing start.

Like Club Racing, SOLO has its own championship known as the SCCA SOLO Nationals. Each year the event is held in Lincoln, Neb., where more than a thousand racers compete in dozens of classes. Many competitors tow their vehicles from all over the country, camping on site or staying in hotels during this four-day event in September to lay their claim as the most skilled drivers in the nation.
