The Playboy Mazda MX-5 Cup is designed to give sports car drivers an opportunity to run on high-profile weekends in an economical, entry-level racing series.  The series uses stock Mazda MX-5s, with suspension modifications and strict safety modifications, spec BF Goodrich f-Force R1 tires. Performance parts for teh series are available through Mazda’s performance division, MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development. Engines remain stock and sealed, with a claiming rule in place to ensure series-wide parity. The result is close racing, with an emphasis on driver skill.

As part of the MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development Ladder, the MX-5 Cup Champion is awarded a ride in a professional racing series with a Mazda race team. And every year, one Mazda amateur road racer from NASA, SCCA or Skip Barber Racing School is awarded a season in the Playboy Mazda MX-5 Cup Series..

Sanctioned and operated by SCCA Pro Racing, the Playboy Mazda MX-5 Cup features ten races at prestigious road racing events across North America and tape-delayed broadcasts on several cable and satellite affiliates.
